If you're like me then you probably find yourself feeling down from time to time from being a blogger (or just a person, really) in such a me-centric world, especially if you are on a tight budget. It has been a growing process, but I have found a way to "treat myself" without breaking the bank. It took some time to adjust from my bi-weekly visits to Ulta and Barnes and Noble where I treated myself to anything I wanted (within reason) to my current state of affairs, but I have managed to find a system that works most of the time.
Typically I try to set aside $5 a week to spend on something nice for myself. This way I can still feel like I am indulging myself without having to feel that horrible buyer's remorse about getting something I want. My personal favorites of late have been: DIY bouquets from the grocery store, new loose teas, and Real Simple magazines. These items are great because they "keep giving back" in the sense that they have more than one use in them, unlike a Starbucks latte where once you've finished it then it's gone.
Just know that if you're struggling financially right now and you feel down, you're not alone. I'm right there with ya. The struggle is part of the story, so let's make it a good one.

It is a terrible feeling, and I get buyers remorse all the time! Even if it is something I'm needing. Stressing out over money is something that can definitely be avoided if you budget right! :)
ReplyDeleteReal Simple is a great little treat! I can't help but pair it with iced coffee though...does that count as two treats? :)
ReplyDeleteNot if it's home made iced coffee ;)

This was really nice to read! I had a super downer moment today (which is weird because I'm finally happy with how my blog is going) and all I wanted to do was treat myself to a pretty dress - but I knew I really couldn't afford one. I like your idea of $5 a week, I'm sure it makes a huge difference! I treated myself to an Elle magazine earlier this week (in French to improve!) and though I haven't looked at it yet (midterm season!) I just like knowing that it's there.
ReplyDeleteReally, I loved this post. We're in it together!
i absolutely agree with you! this year i have 9 weddings and am saving for a big trip to italy in september, so my disposable income is pretty tight. but sometimes a little indulgence is all you need to perk yourself up without that dreaded buyers remorse!
